2008 Basketball Clinic
Thank you to the one hundred young men and women participated in the 2008 Winter Break Basketball Clinic & Life Skills Workshop held at the Montbello Recreation Center. Most clinic participants came from Montbello, Green Valley Ranch, Park Hill, East Denver, Aurora, and Parker, Colorado; but we also had participants from as far away as California and Florida. Over eighty percent clinic participants, ages 9-14, many from economically deprived families were benefactors from this clinic.
Thanks to Head Coach, David Carey- Montbello High School, Montbello H.S. players, Principal Wilson, VP Mark Francis, our supporters Denver Parks & Recreation, Felicia- Montbello Recreation Center, Dimension Z Golf, Walmart (Tower Road) and Kyle Speller- KSG Enterprises LLC, Principal Boughknight- Denver North East Academy, ACW Marketing, Tiffany- Montbello Falcons (Fundraiser Officer), Bobby Bode- Spartans and Walmart (Green Valley Ranch).
Montbello High School Coach, David Carey, and his basketball team lead drills and other fun activities to enhance participants’ basketball skills. Seven-time CHSAA Basketball Championship Coach, Rudy Carey, and Denver Nuggets PA Announcer, Kyle Speller, addressed clinic participants about career options in sports, and also about life skills such as respect, attitude, determination, and goal setting.
Certificates of participation and Denver Nuggets game vouchers, as well as other promotional items, were given to every member of the clinic. Trophies and other awards were given to participants in the slam-dunk contest, 3-point shootout contest. Our clinic received media coverage from Channel 2 News, Denver Weekly News, Greater Far North East Reporter and a reporter for the Rocky Mountain News came out and took pictures.
Community wide participation aided in the overall objective of our program, which is to keep at risk youth involved with activities to help better themselves by promoting health, gamesmanship, education and work ethic. We greatly appreciate your support.
